Background

Let'sGo is a mobile app that aims to connect nature lovers and extroverted travelers with locals through hiking in Hong Kong. It allows users to discover the natural beauty of the area and exchange experiences with the help of features such as real-time locating and tour guide profiles.

Process of the Project

UX Research I

Laddering Interview

To learn about the unforgettable travel experiences of young adults, we utilised laddering interviews to analyse the interview contents and uncover their thoughts and values.

Gather and integrate the interview result for analysis.

Treasures the relationships with other people, enjoy life, willing to learn.

Persona

Based on the values and thoughts of this type of people to design the persona for the target user.

Ideation

Vision Statement

From the interviews, we understood that the target user values relationships with others and desires the freedom to travel.

Therefore, our vision is to develop a travel experience app that will assist the target user in forming connections with locals, specifically catering to nature lovers and extroverted travelers through hiking.

User Journey Map

Based on our persona and vision statements, we have created a journey map to analyse the needs of our traveler users during hiking. This map identifies the opportunities at different stages, enabling us to design positive experiences for our users.

System Diagram

We created the user flow for the entire LetsGo experience. This process enabled us to identify the necessary steps a user must take to accomplish a task and conduct further research on it.

User Research II

Participatory Workshops

Purpose:
  • to generate design ideas
  • to understand the users' needs at different moments
  • to enhance the attractiveness of our service, and determine its feasibility for release
Insight
1.
Show participant profiles for ice-breaking.
2.
Share hiking information, experiences, and district highlights.
3.
Provide location details for vending machines, convenience stores, restrooms, etc.
4.
Display hiking routes and offer navigation assistance.
5.
Offer learning materials and interactive experiences
6.
Include a chatroom for participant communication and feedback on hiking tours.

Prototype & User Test

High-fi Prototype

We created the wireframe based on user feedback gathered during participatory workshops. The wireframe was then used for prototyping and user testing. Its purpose was to get feedback on the features and usability of the app. We also study the technology trend that can support our ideas.

Final Design

Feature Design

Meet up
  • The check-in function allows the local guide to keep track and record the arrival of all participants.
  • The meeting point picture and location help travelers easily find their way to the designated meeting point.
Hiking Duration
  • The real-time locating system automatically identifies and tracks the users' location in real-time, providing direction guidance and assisting with time management.
Rest Facilities
  • Resting places, restrooms, and vending machines are common necessities during hiking.
  • Provide a navigation map to help users easily locate these facilities.
Checkpoints
  • To actively discover and learn about species and history, users can easily check the locations of famous checkpoints along the hiking routes, as well as the distance required to reach them.
